South Dakota State Volleyball Adds Four to 2012 Roster
The South Dakota State volleyball team signed one player to a National Letter of intent and added three more players to the 2012 roster as announced by Jackrabbit head coach Phil McDaniel on Monday.
Courtney Roberts signed a National Letter of Intent, Jocelyn Leichner transferred from New Mexico State, while Kacey Herrmann and LizziePalmer also indicated their plans to enroll at South Dakota State and compete for the Jackrabbit volleyball team.
A 6-1 Middle hitter from Brandon, Manitoba, Roberts comes to SDSU after a standout career at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, where she led the Plainsmen to four city championships, two provincial semifinal appearances and two provincial finals.
Individually, Roberts earned tournament all-star selections at two tournaments and graduating all-star honors in 2011.
Roberts also played softball at Crocus Plains Secondary.
Leichner, pronounced LIKE-ner, transferred to SDSU after one season at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M., where she posted 29 kills, eight digs and seven block assists for the Aggies in 26 sets over 23 matches.
A 6-0 outside hitter from Scottsdale, Ariz., Leichner earned four varsity letters in volleyball at Desert Mountain High School, where she led the Wolves to consecutive state runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, she earned Northeast Valley Player of the Year honors, Desert Valley Region MVP and a selection to the City of Scottsdale all-cityteam. She went on to earn Northeast Valley Region first-team and City of Scottsdale all-city honors again in 2010.
A 6-0 outside hitter, Herrmann joins the Jackrabbits after a standout career at Stevens High School in Rapid City, where she earned four varsity letters in a record-setting career for the Raiders. Herrmann set the Stevens school record for kills with 927 after leading her team with 290 in 2010 and 251 in 2011. She earned all-Greater Dakota Conference first-team honors and all-state second-team honors in both of those years, with an all-tournament team selection in 2010.
In addition to volleyball, Herrmann competed on the Stevens track and field team, where she won numerous state titles on the Raider relay teams, and helped lead to the team to a trio of state team titles.
Off the court, Herrmann posted a 3.951 GPA in high school as a two-year member of the National Honor Society and atwo-year member of Future Business Leaders of America.
Herrmann’s older sister Kelly returns for her senior season in 2012.
A 5-8 defensive specialist from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, Palmer joins the Jackrabbits after a standout career for the Patriots that includes back-to-back Class ‘AA’ state titles 2010 and 2011.
Individually, Palmer earned all-Greater Dakota Conference second-team honors in 2009 and 2011, adding an all-city team and second-team all-state selections in 2011 after finishing her high school career with 1,528 digs.
Off the court, she earned AP Scholar, Regent Scholar and Presidential Scholar accolades in 2012 after spending two years as a member of the National Honor Society and three years as a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.
Like Herrmann, Palmer follows the footsteps of older sister Emily, who completed her Jackrabbit playing career in 2011.
